Part 3 of Climate Change & Human Extinction, —produced, filmed and edited by Robert Malin— is where Guy McPherson artfully offends friend and foe.
Here’s the whole thing for the dedicated viewer:
For those who only have time for sound bites we have this on offer:
- CO2 is incredibly recalcitrant in the atmosphere. We’re at roughly 400 part per million, minimum, for at least for the next thousand years. 350.org goes around telling people we can reduce the CO2 level in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million by mid-century. … Let’s think about malpractice for a minute … […] I think 350.org is guilty of malpractice.
- Change things from the inside? Maintain industrial civilization? It’s a horrible idea. Civilization is a heat engine. It’s leading to over-heating the planet. Not only that, industrial civilization drives to extinction some 200 species every day. Industrial civilization fouls the air and dirties the water, more every single day. Every year it’s worse than the year before, and everybody I know thinks it’s better because we have smart phones. “Smart phones for genocide” that’s my bumper sticker!
Enjoy if you have a sense for dark humor, or be annoyed if you are too intelligent for alarmism. Whatever you do, keep in mind that scientists tend to err on the side of least drama.
